TOOL #27 TALKING: HOW OUR 6-YEAR-OLD HIGHLIGHTED THE IMPORTANCE OF TALKING

A few weeks ago, we were heading to our best-friend’s house for a special social distanced get-together and to meet their gorgeous new doggie. We were all excited about it, even both children, who are quite nervous around dogs, were eager to meet the new family member. However, just as we were leaving the house our 6YO said he needed to talk to us. He wanted to tell us that he was feeling very nervous about meeting his besties new pet. We talked it through, understood his worries and explained that he would be safe and agreed we would still go. We also told him how proud we are of him that he talked to us. No matter how big...

However, I have updated the affirmations to include a few that helped me when I took on the Solihull radio presenter role (and imposter syndrome tried to get in the way) and more recently during COVID19 Lockdown. Affirmations are positive quotes/statements/phrases that you can repeat to yourself out loud or in your head, reminding yourself or telling yourself how you want to feel, what you want to be and even what you want to achieve. You can also write your favourite ones down, put them in...

TOOL #28 CRYING - LET THE TEARS GO

I am a crier. I cry easily. I find it very difficult to hold the tears back. I always have. It has resulted in several awkward moments. Especially the ones where I find myself crying on behalf of a complete stranger or bursting into tears on a complete stranger. For many years, like a lot of people, I thought this was a sign of weakness. I now know it is not. It is one of the most important tools in My Wellness Toolbox to help me Release and Let Go. I only fully appreciated this at the start of 2020. In January I met a wonderful lady called Jackie Breen on Solihull Radio The Wellness Wednesday Show, she was a...

TOOL #10 ACCEPTANCE: DO YOU ACCEPT YOU?

In My Wellness Toolbox (released in 2018) I very proudly talked about Tool #10 Acceptance and how important it had been as part of my therapy to manage and overcome anxiety over the previous 12 years. I listed the things that I had finally accepted, most of them about myself. That is Self-Acceptance. These are just a few that I listed; Who I am. My flaws. That balance with my strengths. My weirdness. That makes me unique. My inability to shut up at times. That enables me to meet new people. My emotions that hang from my sleeve. That make me human and compassionate. My insecurities. That tell my story and that I can choose to address so they don’t...
